Mystic Turquoise (Behr) Color Matched
Since my foyer has limited lighting, I kept telling myself to keep it white for brightness. However, the other voice in my head said, don’t be boring, throw a splash of color in there and have fun. Throughout the last several years, I’ve been found guilty of Millennial Grey and Insane Asylum White in my home. This is exemplified in the half-finished white foyer I abandoned 2 years ago featuring a door I’ve been wanting to replace, more on that later. In today’s time, I knew I wanted something blue…or green…and that lead me on a search for the perfect turquoise color.
Color Discovery
During my search I came across North Sea Green by Benjamin Moore but at the last second, Mystic Turquoise by Behr popped up and seemed very interesting. Within my Google search, there were very few examples of Mystic Turquoise being used in spaces but there was something about it that captivated me. So, I drove over to Home Depot to pick up a sample and as you can see, I painted a small section of the wall crown molding and ceiling Mystic Turquoise.
Mystic Turquoise has a Light Reflection Value (LRV) of 19 and its RGB is: 0, 135, 123.
Over the next 24 hours I stared at the color every time I walked past it. Observing the color in different intensity of light as it was illuminated by by my opened front door. During the day I saw the green take priority but at night, I saw blue when the color was illuminated by my warm foyer lighting. After observing the color during shifting daylight and with my interior lighting, I knew this was thee color. So I did something that seems controversial on Reddit. I hired a contractor from NextDoor.
I Hired a Contractor from NextDoor…
Mateo, the contractor I found on NextDoor does business as El Parsero Painting. Before I hired him for this job, I asked for pictures of his work and I became satisfied with the examples. His work includes molding installation, door installation, painting and many more handyman services. I was also impressed after seeing a homeowner in the historic Raleigh area post a glowing review about all the work he did in her house.
In the photos above, notice the beginning state where I ripped the door molding and base molding off the walls. Mateo did a great job installing the baseboard molding and door molding as well as prepping rough spots on my wall and skim coating my rough ceiling after I scraped off the popcorn.
Lastly, when it came to painting, I explained how I wanted to color-drench my Foyer. Mateo explained how the best option for visual interest is a flat finish on the ceiling, an eggshell finish on the walls and a semigloss finish on the molding. It is very refreshing to have a contractor chime in with their thoughts based off the work they’ve completed. Often, contractors say, “I don’t know, it’s your house. Whatever you want".” Which is obviously true but if you see a better way of doing something, point it out. I digress. Anyway, without further delay, let me introduce you to the magic that is Behr’s Mystic Turquoise color matched by Sherwin Williams.
Thoughts after 2 Weeks
It’s important to note that before full sending this color, I had a design idea/plan that included warm lighting and gold/brass accent. Some days when I was away from home, I daydreamed about how beautiful this color is and how I can’t wait to go home and look at it. Whether it’s by daylight, warm light or in the depth of night’s shadows, this color does not disappoint.
In terms of the Sherwin Williams color match, they hit the nail right on the head. Once I painted the color on the wall, I could not tell a difference between the Mystic Turquoise eggshell sample from Behr and the color matched paint from Sherwin Williams.
What are your Thoughts?
As you saw in this post, I was not afraid to go beyond white, tan or grey for my foyer. I believed the entry into my house should be calming, inspirational and unique. Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment below!
